I heard the Bishop Museum has manatees! Will I be able to see them?
That's right, the Bishop Museum takes in manatees to rehabilitate every year. The ceremony/reception space sits right near the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat. The Bishop’s Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat is a Stage 2 rehabilitation facility — a temporary home where manatees come after their initial critical-care needs have been met in manatee hospitals. Since the habitat is meant to be temporary, the Bishop often takes in manatees sometime around January/March, and they are released back into the wild in January/March of the following year. Due to this schedule, there's a chance there will be no manatees at the Bishop during our wedding day, depending on the status of the manatee's rehabilitation progress.
Another thing to note: if there are indeed manatees at the Bishop during our wedding, the lights in the habitat will be turned off when the sun sets, so the manatees can get some rest. We recommend that you get your viewing and photos in before the sun sets.
