The Beginning
Courtney and Justin had many close misses throughout 2018, including a radio show interview, crossing paths at the English Mentorship Program orientation, and Read Herring. However, they didn't begin dating until they both joined the dating app, Bumble, in the fall of 2018. Although they matched on Bumble, Courtney did not initiate conversation because she was too nervous. Justin extended the 24 hour time period for her to start the conversation (on Bumble, the woman has to initiate the conversation with matches) and Courtney took notice and reached out. They had their first date, which consisted of drinks at Circa 1949 (still one of their favorite spots) and a walk around Hyde Park Village.
Dating
Courtney and Justin became official after one month of dating. Then, Justin deployed to Qatar for the United States Air Force for five months. They continued to date long distance. When Justin returned home, they picked up right where they left off.
Moving In
Two months into the COVID-19 pandemic, Justin and Courtney moved into an apartment together, where they both worked from home with the help of Oliver. They spent the pandemic years coming up with creative ideas for date nights and virtual hangouts with friends. In 2022, they bought a house where they live now with their three cats, Oliver, Bishop, and Newt.
Engagement
On August 25th, 2023, Justin and Courtney's parents were slated to be in Tampa at the same time, and Justin took this opportunity to do what he'd long dreamed of: propose to Courtney. He arranged a lunch at the Saint Pete pier. As soon as the group arrived at the table, Justin got down on one knee and proposed. Courtney said, "yes!" The rest is history.
